Max: Thank You, Hud

I haven't known too many people who have served in the military. A cousin of mine was in the Air Force. My friend Jim was in the Marines briefly until they figured out that he is gay. I don't really know Hud all that well. We have met in person all of once. That was pleasant enough. Poor communication and heartfelt beliefs have led us to clash in much of our later communication here on IWDC. But regardless of any of that, Hud, like many brave men and women, you have committed to put yourself in danger so that the rest of us can have some hope of going about our lives in peace and security. I respect and honor that. And for that, despite anything else, you have my eternal gratitude.

First off, wow, thank you for saying all that. Any soldier you see appreciates hearing things like that. I means more than you know. The best way that I know of for you to show your gratitude is to keep doing what you are doing out here every day. Say what you mean and bring attention to what you think is wrong with the world. As for me, I won't be doing this much longer. You know about me hurting my back about a year ago. They have decided they can't fix me so they are kicking my ass out. Medical discharge. Don't know my final out date yet, but will be soon.

My Dad got kicked out for a medical discharge, too. A buddy of his jokingly tossed him off the back of a moving truck and he re-injured his ankle (he first injured it in a motorcycle accident). He would have had to go to Vietnam if that hadn't happened. I'm glad it did.

So, what does this mean for you, Hud? Are you getting any benefits or just being dumped? How bad is your back? Are you going to have trouble finding a job when you get out? Details, man!

Well, The Army has deemed that I will recieve 10% of my base pay each month, $169. I am filing for benifits thru the veterans association. They should bump it up a little. They look at total health vs employability (i cant spell). So VA will take into account my bad back, bad knees and chronic cough since contracting pneumonia in basic training to determine total monthly benefit. Since I had planned to go into police work after the army and I can't perform those duties I'm hoping for pretty good outcome. Also hoping for educational assistance. Now I'm just waiting to see what happens, could take months to find out.

I hope you get something, you deserve it. If you get educational assistance, what are you going to go back to school for? Get your Masters in Psychology? Doctorate in Para-Psychology and become a Ghostbuster?

I was thinking of studying electrical engineering. I liked it while I studied it before, would like to finish it up. Then Linda and I can work together to open the first bionic pet store/clinic. You know, faster dogs, synthetic furr to avoid shedding, that kind of thing. I was also thinking it would help if cows had the milking machines built in, avoid a lot of unnecessary labor.

Hud, dude, please start your own blog. We NEED you to write long, well thought out bits from your brain. Blogger is free, Blog Spot is free. There's Live Journal. I mean, I love you coming out here, but we need you to write much, much more!

Jericho is on a "You must write" kick recently. Last time I chatted with him, he was like "BLOG BITCH"! I have a Live Journal account that I barely use. Writing's just not my thing. I tried to explain to Jer that I'm an artist not a poet but that didn't seem to sink in.

Well, see, I am a writer. And, well, as a group, we're kinda thick!
