Max: Don't Fret

I currently own two bass guitars. One, a graphite necked Peavey G-Bass, the other a fretless Fender J-Bass. I love my fretless, but my intonation (that is, the accurate fingering of notes) is poor, so my fretted (first a Carvin LB76, then the G-Bass) has always been my main axe. Last night, my G-Bass died. Well, the volume pot died wich killed the onboard electronics. Repair will not be cheap. Replacement is out of the question - not just because of the expense. As much as I look forward to adding to my bass arsenal, the G-bass deserves to be brought back to life. It will just have to wait.

When I realized my main bass was dead, I yelled and cursed the universe for stealing one of the few things that keeps me going. But, in the end, I could not stay as angry and depressed as part of me thought I should. A voice in my head (one of the few that doesn't advocate random violence) kept saying, "You still have the fretless. It's time to get better on the fretless." Even as bad as this situation is, I simply could not let my bass be a source of misery. No wonder I keep sticking with it. It really is one of the few souces of happiness in my life. I don't know if I will ever truly get good on the fretless - not that I am a diva on the fretted - but for the time being it is my main axe. So, I'll play it, get a litte better and see what happens.

What's it going to cost to get your bass fixed? Are you going to do the repairs yourself? You have a birthday coming up and I think I owe you presents for Birthday and Xmas 2004.

I keep reminding him about the brother he has that used to run a guitar/bass repair shop somewhere in Illinois. Too bad he's forgotten all about him! :-P

I'm glad you didn't stay mad, though, Hun. Poor Adi can't handle it!

Jer,

Not sure about the cost just yet. Not sure I am ready to find out. Active electronics are beyond my ability to repair, but they aren't cheap.

Lurve,

I remember that I have a brother. I also remember that he lives an hour away and I am short on free time.

As for the dog, I don't know what her proble is. I have tried to tell her not to take my brutal beatings personally but she just won't listen.

"Brutal Pettings", maybe. All we'd need is to have someone from fucking PETA to read that statement and show up at our door and try to take my Adi-boo away from me!

1. PETA has no police authority and if they try to take Adi that is theft and we will shoot them.

2. PETA disapproves of even having pets, so we are already scum in their minds.
