Max: Fear
Terrorists want me to be afraid. In the past decade and a half, there have been three major terrorist attacks in the US, resulting in about 4000 deaths. Each death is a tragedy on a human scale. But on the macro scale, it is a statistical blip. My chances of being injured or killed by a terrorist are about on par with my chances of winning the lottery.
Just as I occasionally buy lottery tickets, I happily support any effort - within the bounds of law and Constitution - to thwart terrorists.
That said, terrorists, I am not afraid of you.
My government wants me to be afraid. It wants me to fear boogie men - terrorists, immigrants, drugs, obscenity - so that I will give up my freedoms in exchange for protection from them. I don't care about obscenity - but I do care about the freedoms censorship destroys. The drug war is the biggest protection racket around. Just give up freedom and we will protect you from the drug crime that didn't exist until we started protecting you from drug crime. I already touched on terrorist. As for immigrants, I say open the doors.

The braying, bellowing pundits of all political stripes; the Bible, Koran, Veda, Book of the Dead, Midiclorian thumping religious freaks and all others who insist that I keep my heretical mouth shut. You may lack the self confidence and intellectual curiosity needed to truly listen to people who have views different from yours, but I am not. I am willing to talk civilly with anyone about anything

Look at it this way, let's say they (whichever "they" you fear most) are definitely going to get you. You don't know where or when, just that nothing you do will prevent it. What is your hobby now?
SEX! That's been MY hobby all along...
So, let me get this right.
Everyone dead person from a terrorist attack, may have won the lottery, there fore, all our odds have increased.
The government does what it wants to, nickle & dimes and controls it's mingnons through fear and media, and the ultimate goal is capitalistic world domination.
And religion has been a way of controling through fear of a natural cause, death, for centuries.
