Number 10 makes the most sense to me. Seriously.

I think I figured this out in college. I had been playing Sim City a lot and I was having a philosophical discussion with one of the most open minded christians I've ever run across. We were talking about God and the meaning of life and 2 + 2 clicked together and I said something like the following:

"Think about a game of Sim City or Sim Earth on a much larger scale with a computer so advanced as to be nearly perfect."

Heck, you don't even need that. We humans have no idea what "perfection" is, so you just need an advanced enough simulation that the simulated creatures don't realize they are simulations.

You will need a computer that is advanced enough to simulate 'intelligence' - again, this is nearly laughable since 'human intelligence' might be the equivelant to 'ant intelligence' as far as the creators of this computer are concerned.

Both of these things are nearly availible now. I have been playing Sim City 4 for a little while. Each "Sim" has a limited level of intelligence and they would have no way to know that they are simulations. Take this off the 686 processor and place it on the 2086 processor and you might have something.

Those little "Sims" live entire lives in the span of a few minutes - a great deal of them die in auto accidents in my games. And when I remove the game from my hard-drive, their entire reality simply vanishes.

Do they fear death? Do they scream when the simulation is stopped? Probably not, they aren't that well programmed.

We are.

This theory answers a lot of questions for me. Why does nothing make any sense? Why are we here? It's actually comforting to know that I am merely a blip on someone's computer. The other possibilities involving the afterlife are comic and frieghtening. Nothing makes sense because nothing is supposed to make sense. We are just a simulation that will be turned off when whatever teenager gets us to the level he wants to get us to. Personally, I think he's losing the game ...

GO BACK TO A SAVED GAME!

USE A CHEAT CODE!!

It would figure that my user sucks at this game.

Don't worry about it. As much as he has screwed up, the other civilisations in the game are bound to show up soon. When the Vogons or whomever show up, they either wipe out Earth or The User will stop the simulation and restart. It's curtains for us either way.

It's a new religion. Forget the Holy Trinity. Worship the Holy Noob.
