Max: Thoughts

A lot of people looking at Window$ Vi$ta are so displeased that they are saying either they just won't upgrade or will switch to Mac or Linux.

Micro$oft recent invested large money in Linux distributor Novell.

A decade ago M$ invest large money in Apple.

The most recent version of Boot Camp (which boots Windows on Intel Mac boxes) includes support for running previously Mac only apps like iSight and iChat.

Mac is Unix based.

Could we in the next few years see M$ and Apple coming together to make an attempt at the ultimate OS, bridging the worlds of Mac, Windows and *nix?

Bloody Hell, this happens every time a new windows comes out, I remember when 95 was released and there were people who changed it to look like 3.11 again, I guess that the start menu was too confusing. No one liked ME (which was in fact a stinking pile of crap) No one liked XP. XP is a good OS, because its NT (2000) with a skin. Maybe Vista'll be another ME, maybe not but a year or two after its release we will all be using it, so we can play our games and use our office apps without worrying about compatibility issues. Those of us in the field, who could very easily install Unbuntu or Redhat or Bloody freeBSD won't because we need to have a feel for what our clients are using.

Thanks for the response. You are mostly correct but may I suggest you missed the point. I realize that my uninformed rants are not always clear. I was pointing more at the possibility of a convergence some years hence of Mac, Win and Linux.

And forgive me for deflating one part of your argument. I have been switching and multi-booting OS's for over a decade and currently with the help of virtualization have at least four OS's at hand.

On can easily choose the recreational OS one likes and still access and be familiar with the system one must support professionally.
