Max: DIY Laptop

mini-itx.com - projects - itx laptop

For very little money, I have created a 2GHz processor laptop with 1GB Ram, and an ATI Radeon 9200 128MB graphics card. OK, so it is a PCI graphics card and could be faster, but everything is upgradable - I could slot in a motherboard with PCI Express in the future.

I am going to add this to the list of things I am going to do when I am no longer broke.

Edit

I just found this today.

I have wondered for a while why there were not more DIY "luggable" computer cases out there. I figured with the advent of these smaller motherboards that the cases would appear on the market, but I hadn't seen any.

Heck, considering the footprint of our new Dell with the 17" widescreen monitor, you could almost use a full size motherboard! We had to hit at least three places to find a case for the darned thing!

The more I read about small footprint PC's, the more I find myself wanting to build one. I have seen SFPC's that are less than 5 cubic centimeters. I have also read about a guy who spread SFPC components throughout a vest and hooked up the video output to modified sunglasses. Of course, he has a PH.D. in Comp Sci, so I may set my sights lower (larger?).
