Jericho: Ten Down
As of this morning I weigh 503. I've lost 10 pounds in a week. Not bad.
Don't freak out. I know losing more than a pound a day is bad. But, when you weigh as much as I do, losing a pound a day is pretty easy - just diet and get off the couch. Not that dieting is easy, but if you can actually do it, the weight melts off. I also know that I won't stay at this rate forever - I'll be here until I am only reasonably overweight instead of galacticly overweight.
And there's the rub. Steph is really excited I lost ten pounds and she is being very supportive and encouraging. I love her for that. However, I just can't seem to get too excited about this. I've lost weight before, screwed it up and gained it back. Heck, when I started dieting three years ago, I weighed 475 - I gotta lose another 28 pounds just to get back to that.
It's a really long road and 10 pounds is about 3 percent of what I need to lose. I'll be a little more excited thirty pounds from now.

Well, don't give up before you've started. You can do this, Jer! Hell, you HAVE to do it. :) We want you around for a long time yet, ok?
How's the sleep going? Still getting a full 8 hours? Still feeling more energized?
Getting a full 8 hours means going to bed far enough ahead of when you are waking up. I'm really bad about this - some old habits die hard.
However, because I know I'm going to get good sleep, I find myself going to bed at 10 or 10:30 or 11 instead of Midnight or 1.
The sleep has been really good. It's solid, real sleep. I still have not yet woken up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom - what has it been? Nearly two weeks? That's amazing for me - I was getting up every two to three hours before.
I'm also seeing a behaviour continue that is a real shocker for me. When I wake up - I wake up. Once I crack my eyes open and decide it's time to go - I go. Usually I have to pee like mad and I need a drink of water DESPERATELY, so that helps, but I'm accually awake. I don't have Steph waking me up three times. I'm not zombie-boy for more than the first five minutes of the morning. It's really cool.
I'm thinking about taking advantage of this last fact. As much as I want to, I always find ways to not get on the treadmill when I get home at night. I have an actual excuse today - my tendonitis is acting up on my left foot and I'm hobbling all over the place (Time for new shoes! First time my tendonitis has acted up in forever!)
But, if I set myself up an alarm clock (the clock is currently on Steph's side of the bed), go to bed at 10, have the alarm go off at 6, I can do a half hour on the treadmill and still get in the shower about the same time I do now. A half hour a day will be two and a half hours a week - way more exercise than I get now.
We'll see how it goes, but I'm confident I can do something.
CONGRATS on the 10 lbs. If you can do 10 lbs. then you can do another 10 lbs. and another! Take it one day at a time. If you mess up one day, don't give up, just start again. Walking is a great thing for you to do in the morning now.
If you REALLY want to do this bad enough, you WILL. I know because I gave up smoking after 35 years and it was VERY HARD.
KEEP IT UP!!!
I bet you'll feel great after that walk every morning. Now... if I could just get Max to go to the gym we're paying for....! :P
I've been paying for a gym for the last, what? Four years? I've probably gone less than 50 times.
We bought a $2000 treadmill, I've been on it three times.
Being fat is expensive!
Quit smoking after 35 years, Anonymous? That's insanely cool!
Breaking an addiction, no matter what your substance, is hard and an amazing feat.
I look forward to the day when I can say I beat my eating addiction.
Get a can of frozen whatever, orange juice can size, and roll it under your foot while you are on the computer, or whenever you are sitting down. It will quickly take out the pain & inflamation of the tendonitis. Good luck with the walking, on the treadmill or outside.
Groovy. I'll give that a shot!
