I rant for 10 minutes on my hatred of Sci-Fi channel and on the way David Lynch and, in turn, the fans, were screwed by the studios over the Dune movie nearly 20 years ago!
My favorite is still the scene where they are first demonstrating the Weirding Modules (An invention for the movie, not in the original book. In the book, the Weirding Way was a type of martial arts)
In this scene, Muadib asks a Fremen to punch a large piece of stone. Of course the punch does nothing to the stone. Then he asks him to kick the stone, the Fremen kicks it to no effect. Finally, Muadib asks the now very frustrated Fremen to yell at the stone. The Fremen summons up everything in him and yells "BREAK!" - this does nothing and everyone has a good laugh at the poor chap. I just love the look on his face!
BTW, found a link on the Dune movie out at Wikipedia. Has some interesting info, contradicts some of what I heard and adds to what I had heard.
In an earlier attempt to make the movie, they were going to use art from H.R. Geiger - one of my favorite artists. This I already knew. What I didn't know is that they were going to bring in a popular band to do the music, like they did for the David Lynch film where they used the band Toto. For the earlier attempt they were going to use ....
... wait for it ...
... Pink Floyd!
Fuck me! Would someone please go back in time and tell them to make THAT movie! Oh man!

Wish I had a comment for you, but as I don't know that I've watched Dune all the way though before, I have no opinions. Sorry. :(

An interesting (at least to me) aside, the odd, futuristic muscial instrument played by Patrick Stuart is a Chapman Stick
Really? Is that what they used for his Balliset? That's awesome!
Where did you hear that?
I think I saw it on the Stick site.
