Jericho: What would JC do?
"The Bible says you don't charge interest to a poor person."
Jimmy Carter
I would love to know the chapter and verse where it says this! Even if the Bible doesn't say that - it's still one of the coolest things I have ever heard come out of any Christian's mouth!
Our government could learn a lot from Habitat for Humanity. They don't give out charity - you have to work for it. But, in the end, you have something to show for it. If all government programs were run like Habitat - well, it simply won't happen. It would be too good for the American people and we can't have that. Squashing the proletariat is what being an American is all about!

He is likely referring to Exodus 22:25.
Well ... that's pretty freekin' clear, huh?!
Sorta.
In some interpretations, the passage forbids interest. In other interpretations, the passage forbids usury - excessive interest.
I like Carter's interpretation.
Of course, if banks followed this, the only ones richer than they would be countries in most cases. I guess they wouldn't make any money.
Fuck it - I still like Carter's idea better.
Finally, by the power of the Irate Weirdos, I have found the Christian sect I want to be part of. (thank you, this has been a long and important search for me!)
Now, where does this Jimmy Carter of which you speak preach, and does this mean I can finally become a homeowner like a real grown-up? I have a hammer and I am not afraid to use it!
Do I now tithe in peanuts?
The Baptist church in Plains, Georgia. I don't recall the name.
Gosh, I really didn't expect an answer! Is this one of those non-drinking baptist churches, because I may need to rethink my decision.
He's a politician - he drinks!
Hell! His sister was friends with Larry Flynt for a while!
