Max: 20 Years of Stupidity
The thought just occurred that I am a little over a month away from turning 37 and I am still dealing with the consequences of the stupid things I did when I was 17.
I'll probably still be dealing with them when I'm 57.

Any particular stupid thing? Or are you just dealing with the generic stupid?
Getting tossed out of high school. Wings was a dick, but I see no long term benefit that has come from making his life just a bit more annoying.
Assuming that greatness would come to me because I "deserved" it, rather than actually making some sort of effort. Pretty much blowing every opportunity laid before me because they all required that effort thing. For thinking that because I won almost every game of Trivial Pursuit I ever played, and because I sneaked out on to the Chain of Rocks bridge a few times, that I was a cut above the rest of the losers around me.
Starting down the path to gaining 100 pounds instead of the path to losing 60. I just had a "healthy" appetite, I would think. There would be plenty of time to lose that 60 pounds later.
Treating life like it was a dress rehearsal. Believing I would be young forever.
For thinking I knew everything. For ignoring the free advice offered by an extremely intelligent person because I actually believed that I had learned more in 17 years than he had in 50.
For being a coward.
For using what intelligence I had to rationalize my stupidity.
For being a dick to everyone who cared about me.
The usual.
why do you say "cared about me" like it's in the past? we all still care about you.
so... the mistakes you made are common, love. I've made many of the same. I've always thought I was gonna be famous for something or other, but never worked hard to get it.
We can both change... we just gotta help each other out. that's what marriage is about, right?
I love you!
Yesterday is gone, tomorrow isn't, you have only today. You can waste it by dwelling on regrets or waiting for tomorrow. Or you can use THIS minute, hour, day. It isn't a "dress rehearsal", you'll never have it again. We all do stupid things; we all have serious regrets. All we can do is move on and make the most of NOW. We love you.
How did we get so good at kicking ourselves?
Why is there no aerobic benefit to kicking ourselves???
Blaming our past selves for the state of our lives is easy. Getting off our present asses and doing something to fix those mistakes is hard.
Doing easy things is so much easier than doing hard things.
Col 1 vs. Col 2 (ask Max)
aerobic - good
kicking ourselves - bad, useless
For today - I will be good to myself - which totally excludes kicking oneself.
