Okay, after listening to three other, older performances (and giving myself a glorious, well deserved headache, probably the result of a brain bruise from too much head banging) I think I now see the issue.
The band may not have lost any chops - I would have to hear further evidence before passing final judgment. But, this song is presented at about half speed and half intensity. It's almost a ballad. THIS IS NOT A BALLAD!
I imagine they did this to accommodate Taylor Swift, who is certainly not Lita Ford, Joan Jett or Pat Benatar. (Oh! Rapture! That would be sheer AWESOME!)
If 'da Leppard did this to get some press, pulling some of this chick's thunder, well, I hope it works. Their stock went down on my exchange.
Ima go tool up my Def Leppard greatest hits on my iPod now.
In general, I would agree. There are some slow bangs out there that have rocked me. Slow does not equal un-intense. The first that comes to mind, and it's a cover even, is Pantera's "Planet Caravan".

THAT'S intense!
But, I do feel this DL/TS performance was slow AND low intensity. There were spots where I was reminded more of a sit-com theme song than an arena rocker.

Okay, not to pull a Simon Cowell, but that was the most karaoke thing I've ever heard!
This was just not in Taylor Swift's range and they should have left the band in the old folks home.
I'm just being honest! :)
American Idol has destroyed America.
Dinosaur Rockers aren't making it better!
What does age have to do with anything?
Okay, you got me on that. The Stones still rock the house and will continue to do so when they are being pushed around the stage in wheel chairs.
However, if I had paid $50 to go see Def Leppard in concert and I saw that mess ... I would have left ten minutes in and demanded my money back.
Either way, be it age or fleeting talent, those guys are extinct.
Where specifically do they fail?
You tell me ...

Slowed down, yes.
Could have done with a better chick singer than little Ms. Lite Cheesecake, yes?
But I call bullshit when you say that slowed down == less intensity.
Ms. Lite Cheesecake - indeed! Love it!
